Sterilization Drive

Here in Spain, every week, we receive calls about animals abandoned in the campo — left without medical care, starving, frightened, without shelter… and often, pregnant. This is not something that people usually would associate with this sunny vibrant country - but it is in fact - a huge problem.
At Aims we are committed to tackling this crisis at it’s root.
Shelters are already overwhelmed with unwanted animals, and we’re determined to create lasting change. Sterilization is one of the most effective ways to break this cycle of suffering—and we’ve seen it succeed in other countries, like Thailand, where large-scale spay and neuter programs continue to dramatically reduced stray populations.
Many of the animals we assist were rescued from the campo—some while heavily pregnant. For the lucky ones, we were able to offer a safe, quiet space to give birth, rest, and recover. Once their puppies were weaned, the mothers were sterilized, and both mums and pups were adopted into loving homes with responsible, caring families. Many litters of puppies are dumped outside shelters here, some with severe health problems while others are fending for themselves on the streets eventually repeating the cycle.

Without intervention, these animals are forced to give birth alone—often facing complications, and left vulnerable to predators, illness, and despair. One of our recent rescues, Brenda, is a heartbreaking example. Found in the campo while heavily pregnant, we brought her to the sanctuary. Upon arrival Brenda went into labour but suffered severe complications. Tragically, all nine of her puppies had died inside her some time before, and Brenda herself was battling advanced leishmaniasis, heart condition and then multiple organ failure. Despite best efforts at the emergency clinic, she didn’t survive. But Brenda didn’t die alone—or in vain. Her story strengthens our resolve to break this devastating cycle.
With your support, we can prevent more tragedies like Brenda’s and reduce the number of unsterilised dogs and unwanted litters left to suffer and repeat the cycle over and over again.
Together, we can ease the burden on overcrowded shelters and give these animals a chance at a future—safe, cared for, and never abandoned again.
Help us be the change. Please share and spread the word of our Aims Sterilisation Drive and donate if you can.
