Yogurin – Almost three years behind bars, still waiting for his chance

Yogurin arrived at the pound in July 2023, at about 8 months old. He is a beautiful Malinois mix who was found, probably abandoned on the street, and taken to the pound.

Yogurin has been waiting for almost three years now. He has spent more of his life inside a cage than outside of it, and life behind bars is starting to take its toll on this sweet dog who deserves much more than a life of endless confinement.

When Yogurin first arrived at the pound, he came with Cai, whom we believe is his brother. Cai was lucky enough to be adopted. Yogurin has shared his cage with different dogs over time, but all the dogs he shared space with have been adopted one by one, eventually leaving him alone. This continued loneliness is causing him to become increasingly stressed in the pound environment.

We've tried introducing him to some new dogs inside the pound, but Yogurin finds it difficult in such a small, confined space. However, outside the pound, it's a completely different story. On his walks and outings, he's perfectly happy with other dogs. He enjoys their company, plays enthusiastically, runs freely, and shows just how sociable and cheerful he can be. As a large, energetic dog, he loves to run and play, and the more relaxed he is, the more his affectionate and playful nature shines through.

The one highlight in Yogurin's life is going for walks a few times a week, especially with Chauen, another young male. One of our very dedicated volunteers always takes Yogurin and Chauen out together when he's in the pound. She takes them on short car trips, and they travel very well together, enjoying the change of scenery and the freedom to explore. These moments in the car, the walks, and their time outside together mean everything to him.

October 2025: One of our volunteers took Yogurin on a special adventure outside the pound. He explored the town, spent time at the beach, and even visited the pet shop, Tienda Animal. He behaved wonderfully throughout the outing, showing his calm and friendly nature, as well as his enthusiasm for new experiences. This adventure proved once again that he is more than ready to leave the pound behind and enjoy a life in a real home.

In May 2026, Yogurin was lucky enough to enjoy a short adventure to the nearby town with his friend Chauen. Overall, Yogurin behaved wonderfully and proved to be a sweet, sensitive, and very adaptable boy. He traveled very well in the car and quickly decided that the back seat was the best place to go, happily relaxing during the journey and enjoying the volunteer's cuddles along the way.

Once in town, Yogurin walked very well through the streets on a quiet Sunday and handled everything around him wonderfully—passing dogs, people, children, traffic, and all the new smells and stimuli of town life. He especially loved stopping on the grass for cuddles and a moment of relaxation.

The only time he seemed a little nervous was when a large truck pulled up nearby to empty the big street bins, making a sudden racket. Even so, Yogurin recovered quickly and continued walking very well afterward.
Throughout the outing, he was calm, affectionate, and attentive, and was happy to get back in the car afterward. Overall, Yogurin did incredibly well and showed that he has all the potential to adapt perfectly to life outside the kennel with a loving family.

Despite everything he has been through, Yogurin's loving nature still shines through. He is affectionate, enjoys cuddles, and has a playful spirit that is just waiting for the right environment to fully blossom. He walks well on a leash, loves to explore, and will thrive in a home where he receives regular exercise, attention, and love.

Yogurin has waited too long. He deserves a family that will finally show him what life is like outside the bars—a life where he can run, play, and truly feel like he belongs.
